Amy's Story
My family and friends are spread over several continents and countries. Many of us are lower income earners. I support Net Neutrality because it will protect my ability to connect with loved ones on a daily basis while I am living in Australia. (I am a U.S. citizen and my closest family/friends are mainly in the U.S.A.)
I am also an Artist and I gain much inspiration, and consistently learn new ideas, from an extremely wide range of websites. I am involved in online art communities where support and ideas are exchanged freely. It would be so damaging to my own work, and the work of many other artists, to discriminate against website access, or connection quality, based on a person’s ability to pay added tolls.
I know there are many other issues which come into play, but I believe that just these two personal examples of the importance of net neutrality are enough for my to make my point.
Please do not let the internet collapse in this way. It can only be destructive to our country and the world by hampering the innovation that is daily being brought about by the free exchange of ideas online. Every person has a right to contribute through this medium. Every person, regardless of financial or social status. Please consider the consequences of this decision, because once the freedoms are taken away, we will ALL be losing out on our future.
I’ve read that many of the jobs people will have in 50 years have not even been invented yet… I highly believe that the internet will provide the most potential for growth in this kind of area. It makes communication simpler, faster and more effective in our lives now. Imagine what it will do if we let it flourish, rather than have it bogged down in restrictions and rules.
The possibilities are waiting. I’m voicing my concern so that it might bring awareness to our leaders and corporation heads who hold the country’s -and the world’s- future in their hands.
Thank you so much for taking my thoughts, and the thoughts of other citizens, into careful consideration before making such an important decision.
Think of how this could impact upon you, your family and your communities by acknowledging the freedoms you currently have online, and the ways in which there is potential for bigger and better ventures; so long as these freedoms are maintained and improved in the coming years.
Sincerely,
Amy Lehr Miller
