Only the King's Chosen Can Use Gutenberg's Press

"Only the clergy, and faithful subjects who bring gold, shall decide what gets printed and distributed among the masses," spake the King. "If commoners cannot pay, then they shall not access this new revolutionary device."

If Internet control is seized by the telecom giants, this is what will happen. The Internet must remain neutral and open to everyone, and not just for now. New laws have to be strong enough to protect Net neutrality far into the future. America and democracy would never have existed had the printing press not been accessible to the common man. Now, without open access to this "new revolutionary device" of the Internet, democracy will die. It's that plain.

Free Press is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to reform the media. Through education, organizing and advocacy, we promote diverse and independent media ownership, strong public media, quality journalism, and universal access to communications.
