Network neutrality ensures that everyone is heard
Network Neutrality is essential to preserve a free and open internet, protected from tollbooths, gatekeepers, and discrimination.
The principle of network neutrality may seem like a new idea, but in fact it perfectly aligns with an old idea which permeates the writings and acts of our nation's founders: a belief that all persons are created equal and possess an equal right to the freedom and opportunity to develop their human potential to the fullest, regardless of wealth, status, identity, or beliefs.
The neutrality of the internet has allowed me as an artist to share my own visual and literary work worldwide, and, more importantly, it has allowed me as an editor to publish the works of numerous other artists so that their works can inspire and enlighten viewers worldwide. Artist, academics, and students have connected with each other as a result of my website. But my website is not a business: It is a mission-based project which charges no fees and generates no income. Without an open and neutral internet, my website would be crowded out by profit-driven sites.
The internet is a commons--a great resource which benefits the whole nation when shared by the whole nation. Equal access is a right, not a privilege-up-for-sale. Network neutrality ensures that everyone's voice can be heard.
