The Net is for all of us

The Internet has grown through innovation, and understandably, powerful forces in our economy want to harness the power and energy of the Net to their advantage.

But we must resist creating a situation where the desire for economic gain distorts the Net and creates disadvantages for everyone else. The Internet is an inherently collaborative, interactive medium.

It is fundamentally different from the broadcast model, but opponents of Net Neutrality are attempting to impose that model on the Net. This will stifle innovation and reduce the value of the Internet for everyone, including those who seek to gain from it.

Let's stay with what works. Net Neutrality means taking good care of the goose laying the golden eggs. Those eggs do not belong to an exclusive few who are pressuring you for special access to them.

Free Press is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to reform the media. Through education, organizing and advocacy, we promote diverse and independent media ownership, strong public media, quality journalism, and universal access to communications.
