The Internet Should be a Utility

Access to bandwidth must be as equitable as possible. The potential of the internet as a repository and source of human knowledge (e.g., Wikipedia) is obvious. It's also one of the most innovative sectors in the economy (eBay, Amazon, Google, etc.).

We don't understand the internet well enough to regulate it. Please, please, please treat the internet like tap water. A free flow of bits into every home will ensure that everyone shares in the life-enhancing potential of the internet.

Free Press is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to reform the media. Through education, organizing and advocacy, we promote diverse and independent media ownership, strong public media, quality journalism, and universal access to communications.
