Tim Bayer
Keep it free - and uninhibited
For work, I depend on the Internet for running my business (www.TimBayer.com), research, checking facts for my freelance writing and documentary production and communicating with my clients. On a personal note I use the internet every day to keep in touch with friends, collect information and keep updated with news and world wide events.
I produce videos, build web sites and am a freelance writer. I market and sell my videos on the web and display examples of my freelance writing on the web (on www.DemoGrid.com). Obviously, the web sites I build are web based. More than 90% of my sales come directly via the web allowing potential customers to view my video trailers, freelance writing and web sites. Without uninhibited high speed access for all, my business will be crippled. My ability to promote and sell my videos around the world will vanish - as a small business I cannot afford the overhead of world wide marketing and promotion. Limit the Internet and - Bam! I am out of business.
A fast-and-equal-access Internet is the great equalizer for small businesses. We little guys get to do what the big guys do without the mega-dollar overhead.
Many of my personal emails contain video clips, multi-media or audio clips I produce which showcase my production abilities. Often my friends will forward or show my email content to friends and associates. This has led directly to more business for me. Like everyone, personal contacts (networking) has allowed me to build my small business. Much of my interaction with friends and associates is via email over the web. It is imperative that every person has high speed, uninhibited internet access so that small businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive.
I use the internet everyday for my work and personal pursuits. Do not degrade this freedom of information and access to the world wide community by limiting speed or usage.
