Protect the Internet

One of the things that should never be compromised by corporate interest in profit is the freedom to access information. Everyday there is a growing number of personal liberties slipping away from Americans, and this should not be one of them. By having corporations place speed bumps and road blockers on the user end of the internet, it will place significant implications on what kind of information and knowledge will be spread by that means. With nearly every American having a computer in there home with internet, it would be like burning a bridge between users and creators of content whom are often the same group. This is what makes the internet special. Giving telecommunications companies free reign to halt, slow down or prefer certain bit sources over others in the interest of greater profit degrades the entire system.

Free Press is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to reform the media. Through education, organizing and advocacy, we promote diverse and independent media ownership, strong public media, quality journalism, and universal access to communications.
