The remarks continued the debate about the FCC's authority to require Internet service providers to abide by the non-discrimination and interconnection policies that currently govern telephone and enterprise telecommunications networks.

  • Free Press Pans FCC Decision to Sunset Video-Competition Safeguards

    WASHINGTON -- On Friday, the Federal Communications Commission allowed key parts of its "program access" rules to expire, in a decision that could make it harder for rivals to traditional cable companies to compete. The regulations sunset today thanks to provisions in previous FCC decisions and in the underlying federal law. The Commission previously extended the rules in 2002 and 2007, but decided not to this time.

  • Public Interest Groups to File Net Neutrality Complaint Against AT&T for Blocking FaceTime on iPhones and iPads

    WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, Free Press, Public Knowledge, and the New America Foundation’s Open Technology Institute notified AT&T of their intent to file a formal complaint against the company. In the complaint, the three organizations will assert that AT&T is violating Net Neutrality by blocking the popular video-conferencing application FaceTime. The groups will file the complaint with the Federal Communications Commission in the coming weeks.

    WASHINGTON -- On Tuesday, California Rep. Anna G. Eshoo joined congressional colleagues Sen. Ron Wyden, Rep. Darrell Issa and Rep. Jared Polis, more than 1,800 groups and organizations and 75,000 individuals from more than 130 countries who have signed the Declaration of Internet Freedom since its launch on July 2. The Declaration has also been translated into more than 70 languages.
