Big Win! AT&T Drops Its T-Mobile Takeover Bid

This is huge: AT&T just announced it’s finally abandoning its doomed merger with T-Mobile.

For nearly a year, we've been showing that this deal would have only meant higher prices, fewer choices and tens of thousands of lost American jobs. Free Press knew it; the Department of Justice agreed; so did the FCC.

Now even AT&T, its high-priced lobbyists and its fake grassroots front groups all must admit this deal is dead.

When AT&T first announced its bid to take over T-Mobile, pro-corporate cheerleaders told us this behemoth deal couldn’t be stopped. Many other groups and even members of Congress knew how bad the merger was but were afraid to say so. But we knew the truth and wouldn’t relent.

The result is the best holiday gift we could have asked for: the end of this disastrous deal.

We couldn’t have stopped this merger without the support of hundreds of thousands of activists like you. You should be proud.

Enjoy this victory now, because our fight continues. Next year we’ll be working to stop the carriers from spying on your phone and blocking your right to speak online. We'll be exposing the phone companies for colluding with the cable guys to keep your prices high. And we’ll keep on pushing for real, lasting Net Neutrality protections for everyone — no matter how they get online.

Yay! I can keep my Tmobile

Yay! I can keep my Tmobile service. Maybe the $4 billion will let TMob actually innovate in the field, which is never in the cards for ATT.

AT&T/T-Mobile failed merger

By Fredrick L. Mayes (not verified) on December 27, 2011

The only issue I see now is from the numerous articles I have read regarding T-Mobile struggling to make ends meet due to them losing customer base. From what people are saying they are struggling and could possibly go belly up if they can't get things straightened out. Thats just what I read tho. Not sure word for word exactly what was said tho. I am glad tho that the whole merger thing failed. I can't stand AT&T and love T-Mobile. Hopefully T-Mobile can come up with the next big thing and boost their sales and customer base.

FAILED MERGER BETWEEN AT&T and T-Mobile

By Christian Jazzlady Monique (not verified) on January 07, 2012

Happy New Year 2012 everyone! Blessings to all of you!

I was a good customer of Virgin Mobile for 3-4 years and decided to leave and try out T-Mobile. I am NOW considering going back to Virgin. Their service is good as they are on the Spring network.

T-Mobile is ok, and they won't let you change phone numbers often. Their customer service is not great and sometimes you can hear people talking in the background while on a call. Not cool.

NONETHELESS, I have NO respect for AT&T whatsoever and any company that escapes from them is blessed@!@!. Bell South was a nice company here in South Florida and AT&T took them over. I am so sorry they did.

AT&T is an arrogant and mean company. I attempted to speak to customer service regarding joining their company a few months ago. THAT...was a mistake! After waiting an hour on hold, I got a rep with an accent who couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand her either. I kept telling her that I couldn't understand what she was saying and finally....she hung up in my face after holding for an hour! That was it for me. I have COMCAST for my internet provider and had them for cable. I love their service!! Comcast is a great company and they try hard to please their customers.

I will not support AT&T. They are a dangerous company and I saw that years ago.

I am very happy that T-MOBILE did not merge with AT&T. It would have been a big mistake. Hopefully they will get their act together so they won't be a target for wicked people.

Peace. Have a very blessed year and God bless and heal America. Jesus is Lord.

Love,
M
